KOTA BAHARU, 6 JULY, 2011: Universiti Malaysia Kelantan will be fully operational simultaneously at three campuses in the state in September when the new semester begins.
Vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Zainai Mohamed said the three are the main campus at Tangok in Bachok, branch campus in Jeli and temporary campus at Taman Bendahara in Pengkalan Chepa.
"Although at first we experienced some delay in the building of basic facilities, we are confident that the three campuses will start operating fully in September," he said today after opening the National Seminar on Academic Libraries 2011 here.
Zainai said the temporary campus in Pengkalan Chepa, which began operating in 2007, now has a staff of 560 and almost 2,000 students taking 17 courses.
When the main campus and branch campus open, the university would be doing more to help bring change to Kelantan in line with the implementation of the East Coast Economic Region in the state, he said.
Zainai said the government had allocated RM240 million to finance the management of the three campuses.
