In recognition of its expertise in technical and vocational education, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) recently won a World Bank bid to develop vocational training in Jordan.
Through its subsidary UTHM Holdings Sdn Bhd, the university will be responsible for setting up a governing system and vocational training model for the Jordanian Vocational Training Corporation (VTC), which is under the country’s Labour Ministry.
The agreement was formalised earlier last month during a consultancy services contract signing ceremony in Amman, Jordan, where Jordan was represented by its Labour Minister Dr Mahmoud Al-Kafawin and VTC managing director Majed Al-Habashneh.
UTHM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Noh Dalimin and project director Prof Dr Wahid Razzaly acted as representatives for UTHM.
Also in attendance at the event was Ambassador of Malaysia in Jordan Datuk Abdul Malek Abdul Aziz.
In his speech at the ceremony, Prof Mohd Noh expressed his hope that the collaboration would be seen as a symbol of a strong relationship between two progressive Islamic countries.
The 30-month project is sponsored by the World Bank and will involve a team of international experts led by Prof Wahid, who is also UTHM’s Faculty of Technical Education dean.
The UTHM delegation also paid visits to two universities during their tour of Jordan, namely the University of Jordan and the AlBalqa Applied University.
During the visit to the latter, Prof Mohd Noh signed a joint declaration with AlBalqa Applied University president Prof Dr Ekhleif Y Tarawneh for increased collaboration and exchange for students, research, publication between the universities.
